So I’ve lately been pulled more and more into comic books (it’s awful, really) and really love the easy access to comic books San Francisco offers, from the stores to the public library. The oldest in the city, Comix Experience, is offering a monthly comic book club, for people inside and outside of the Bay Area, to help cover the costs of the newly increased minimum wage to offer employees a realistic living wage. There’s going to be a monthly meeting (which will be streamed for those out-of-towners) for people to discuss that month’s selection.
I’ve already signed up and am really looking forward to meeting new people! If you’re in the Bay Area, check it out and see if you want to subscribe. This is great for even those not in the area — they’re even serious about international shipping. Sometimes it’s hard to meet people who can geek out about something, but still talk critically. I was just at PCA (update about that forthcoming) and it really made me realize how much I miss/crave that discourse surrounding things I’m passionate about. So hopefully I can get a fix of discussion with a dose of social interaction. And, of course, thanks to Neil Gaiman for spreading the word about this. I really love how much he keeps his fans in the know about things he’s passionate about. Sometimes you hate when celebrities plug things, but Neil’s always good about keeping it industry related and something you actually want to know about.
